Introduction to Natural Dyeing

Delve into a hidden world of natural color using locally abundant plants! In this introduction workshop, participants will get a good understanding to natural dyeing by learning the fundamental pretreatment process, best practices for collecting dye plants, how to extract color from plants, how to modify natural colors into surprising tones, and how to create patterns on the fabric through shibori folds.  

We will discuss the mordanting process, start a couple of dye baths using locally available plants, dye some samples, play with color modifiers, explore shibori folds and dye a final project. At the end of the course, you will take home several fabric samples, a tote bag naturally dyed by you, and an informational booklet for you to reference when dyeing at home.

Participants who register for all three workshops (Introduction to Natural Dyeing; Introduction to Eco-Printing; Natural Painting) receive a 10% discount.

The workshop will taught in English but any questions can be clarified in Portuguese.
