Bundle Dyeing with Local Flowers

Curious to explore the world of natural dyes using locally-grown materials? Join Annette from Tinctorium Studio at The Salt Studio for a day of vibrant natural colors from home-grown flowers from Annette’s garden.

In this workshop, you’ll get a super fun introduction to natural dyeing by using flowers to bundle dye a silk scarf! We’ll review the mordanting process, explore the surprising colors that can be achieved from easy-to-grow plants (you might find they’re already growing in your garden!) and play with binding techniques and color modifiers to get different effects on the fabric.

Use your naturally dyed silk as a headscarf, handkerchief, to pack up a picnic, or decorate a table - the possibilities for this versatile accessory are endless. Even better, there will never be two exactly like it - just like you!

Please note, you are also invited to bring your own garment to bundle dye and use up any remaining workshop materials. The pre-treatment will be different from the play silks, so the colors will vary accordingly. This is a great opportunity to give a new life to an old or stained t-shirt or pillowcase.
